Baby Elephant

I finally completed this baby elephant (courtesy of Mr Funky's Super Crochet Wonderful) over the span of a few months. I couldn't think of a good name for him, so I simply called him Baby E, and it stuck for good.

Baby E wishes to trumpet like the growed up elephants someday. He's still learning but it's tough without a mama elephant. Maybe I'll make him one...

<lj-embed id="4" />

This squirrel doesn't really look like a squirrel. It reminds me more of a baby tiger or something. Probably attributed by its colour. I got the pattern from my Japanese pattern book. Abby named him Nacho, inspired by "Nacho Libre", but Nacho doesn't look as wacky as Jack Black. He loves nuts, and is pictured with his favourite one. Which looks kinda like an acorn-shaped football though.

I must say it's very hard to make tiny creatures, and I don't think I wanna attempt another one of these for some time. Twinkletoes was inspired by this mini bunny on Avocadolite Farm. As her name suggests, Twinkletoes is a ballerina and loves to do pirouettes. Her tutu was in the wash, so I made her a simple dress instead.

How to make Twinkletoes:

Materials:
Lavendar, pink, black, blue yarn
Small black beads
2.5mm hook
Polyfill

Head:

With lavendar yarn, chain 2
1) 6 sc in 2nd chain from hook
2) [sc inc] x 6 (12)
3) [1 sc, sc inc] x 6 (18)
4-5) sc even
6) [1sc, sc dec] x 6 (12)
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing onto body.

Ears/Legs (x4):

With lavendar yarn, chain 2
1) 4sc in 2nd chain from hook
2-4) sc even
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing onto head.

Body:

With lavendar yarn, chain 2
1) 6 sc in 2nd chain from hook
2) [1 sc, sc inc] x 3 (9)
3-5) sc even
Fasten off, and weave in ends.

Arms:

With lavendar yarn, chain 2
1) 4 sc in 2nd chain from hook
2-5) sc even
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing onto body.

Dress

With pink yarn, chain 12
1) 11 sc
2-8) sc even
Cross stitch patterns on dress and sew on straps.

With black yarn, embroider nose and mouth and sew on beads for eyes.

It's another pattern from the Taiwanese book, and it's supposed to be a bag charm/cell phone accessory.

On a totally unrelated note, I've just gotten a ticker to countdown to Christmas (yes, I'm that excited) and wanted to show it off somewhere.
Momo the Marmot

I got this Taiwanese amigurumi book from the library and began my first project from there. The title roughly translated is "Crochet Toys". The patterns are not very reader-friendly, but I managed to decipher them anyways. The patterns are all of animals, and the English names given to these critters are really laughable. I'm not too sure this is supposed to resemble a marmot, so I Googled marmot to find out what they really look like. Apparently they're some kind of squirrel/groundhog animal. But my Momo looks more like a Pokemon.
