Baby Elephant

I finally completed this baby elephant (courtesy of Mr Funky's Super Crochet Wonderful) over the span of a few months. I couldn't think of a good name for him, so I simply called him Baby E, and it stuck for good.

Baby E wishes to trumpet like the growed up elephants someday. He's still learning but it's tough without a mama elephant. Maybe I'll make him one...

<lj-embed id="4" />

Baby Lamb #2

I made another baby lamb as a gift, but somehow it didn't quite turn out as good as the first one. Probably the result of hurried crocheting during my lunch breaks.

This is my first ami in a really loooong time, and I'm glad to say my skillz haven't turned rusty. There's no name for this birdie yet, cos I may give it away. I got the pattern for this birdie from here.

This is Tommy, made from another free pattern from Crochetville. I tried adding a mouth for him but it didn't turn out right so I nixed the idea. Tommy took a shine to Hippy immediately as both are similar in posture.

This squirrel doesn't really look like a squirrel. It reminds me more of a baby tiger or something. Probably attributed by its colour. I got the pattern from my Japanese pattern book. Abby named him Nacho, inspired by "Nacho Libre", but Nacho doesn't look as wacky as Jack Black. He loves nuts, and is pictured with his favourite one. Which looks kinda like an acorn-shaped football though.

Twinkletoes

I must say it's very hard to make tiny creatures, and I don't think I wanna attempt another one of these for some time. Twinkletoes was inspired by this mini bunny on Avocadolite Farm. As her name suggests, Twinkletoes is a ballerina and loves to do pirouettes. Her tutu was in the wash, so I made her a simple dress instead.

How to make Twinkletoes:

Materials:
Lavendar, pink, black, blue yarn
Small black beads
2.5mm hook
Polyfill

Head:

With lavendar yarn, chain 2
1) 6 sc in 2nd chain from hook
2) [sc inc] x 6 (12)
3) [1 sc, sc inc] x 6 (18)
4-5) sc even
6) [1sc, sc dec] x 6 (12)
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing onto body.

Ears/Legs (x4):

With lavendar yarn, chain 2
1) 4sc in 2nd chain from hook
2-4) sc even
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing onto head.

Body:

With lavendar yarn, chain 2
1) 6 sc in 2nd chain from hook
2) [1 sc, sc inc] x 3 (9)
3-5) sc even
Fasten off, and weave in ends.

Arms:

With lavendar yarn, chain 2
1) 4 sc in 2nd chain from hook
2-5) sc even
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing onto body.

Dress

With pink yarn, chain 12
1) 11 sc
2-8) sc even
Cross stitch patterns on dress and sew on straps.

With black yarn, embroider nose and mouth and sew on beads for eyes.

Reese

Here's another creation inspired by one of Avocadolite Farm's critters.

I think my colour combi isn't that great, but Reese thinks it's funny that he's the furry equivalent of a Colleen colour pencil (vermillion and Prussian blue). Because of this unintentional similarity, Reese likes to draw and aspires to be an artist when he grows up.

How to make Reese:

Materials:
vermillion, dark blue & light pink yarn
3mm hook
2 small beads for eyes
Polyfill
Yarn needle

Head/Body:

1) Using vermillion yarn, ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch
2) sc inc x 6 = 12
3) (1 sc, sc inc) x 6 = 18
4) (2 sc, sc inc) x 6 = 24
5 - 11: sc even
12) (2 sc, sc dec) x 6 = 18.
Charlie the Chimp

I was inspired by Amigurumi Kingdom's lovely creations, and decided to model an amigurumi after this example. I cribbed most of Porco's pattern to make this, and winged the rest.

My version's definitely not as professional looking, but it's still cute. I named this chimp Charlie, after my fave character on Numb3rs.

Charlie loves to climb up and down everywhere and is very curious about everything.

How to make your own chimp:

Materials:

Yarn of the following colours: turquoise, white, bright pink and black
3 mm crochet hook
Polyfill
Yarn needle

Head:

1) With turquoise yarn ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch.
2) 2 sc inc x 6 = 12
3) (1 sc, 2 sc inc) x 6 = 18
4) (2 sc, 2 sc inc) x 6 = 24
5) (3 sc, 2 sc inc) x 6 = 30
6) (4 sc, 2 sc inc) x 6 = 36
7 - 14: sc even
15) (4 sc, 2 sc dec) x 6 = 30
16) (3 sc, 2 sc dec) x 6 = 24
17) (2 sc, 2 sc dec) x 6 = 18
18) (1 sc, 2 sc dec) x 6 = 12
19) 2 sc dec x 6 = 6
Fasten off, weave ends in.

Body:

1) With turquoise yarn ch 7, skip 1 ch, sc in ea ch, 2 sc inc. Turn work 90 degrees clockwise, sc in ea ch, 2 sc inc =16
2) (sc in each sc x 6, 2 sc inc x 2) x 2 = 20
3) (3 sc, 2 sc inc) x 5 = 25
4 - 13: sc even
14) (3 sc, 2 sc dec) x 6 = 24
Fasten off, leaving long length of yarn for sewing to head.

Ears (x2):

1) With turquoise yarn ch 2, 4 sc in 2nd ch.
2) (2 sc inc) x 4 = 8
3) (1 sc, 2 sc inc) x 4 = 12
4: sc even
Fasten off, leaving long length of yarn for sewing to head.

Arms (x2):

1) With turquoise yarn ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch
2 - 7: sc even
Fasten off, leaving long length of yarn for sewing to body.

Legs (x2):

1) With turquoise yarn ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch
2) (1 sc, 2 sc inc) x 3 = 9
3 - 6: sc even
Fasten off, leaving long length of yarn for sewing to body.

Face:

1) With white yarn, ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch
2 - 6: refer to rows 2 - 6 of head pattern.
Fasten off, leaving long length of yarn for sewing to head.
Before attaching face to head, sew on eyes, nose and mouth.

The Princess Debut

Here's my take on a crochet tiara! It looks like what the Statue of Liberty would wear.

I got the pattern from Midnight Knitter's blog. It's supposed to be a 5-pointed tiara but somehow I ended up with A 6-pointed one. Whatever.

And this is me wearing the tiara:

Yet another one from the Taiwanese book. The mouth is way too big for his head, but overall he still looks ok. Isn't his hair and tail the cutest??

Herbie is best friends with Hippy, although Hippy can't quite fathom why he's so small and Herbie's so huge.

Alien bunny

I finished this in a matter of minutes. It's another pattern from the Taiwanese book, and it's supposed to be a bag charm/cell phone accessory.

On a totally unrelated note, I've just gotten a ticker to countdown to Christmas (yes, I'm that excited) and wanted to show it off somewhere. Heh.

Momo the Marmot

I got this Taiwanese amigurumi book from the library and began my first project from there. The title roughly translated is "Crochet Toys". The patterns are not very reader-friendly, but I managed to decipher them anyways. The patterns are all of animals, and the English names given to these critters are really laughable. I'm not too sure this is supposed to resemble a marmot, so I Googled marmot to find out what they really look like. Apparently they're some kind of squirrel/groundhog animal. But my Momo looks more like a Pokemon.

Mystery Soup!

Another pattern from the amigurumi book, another item of food for my toys to enjoy. The original pattern included hands and feet but I left them out. I'd like to think it's miso soup since it's Japanese, but my toys think otherwise.

Porco

Here's the Japanese take on a cute lil piggy that I've named after the titular hero in the Hayao Miyazaki film "Porco Rosso".

Here's the original Porco:

And this is my very own version:

Not unlike his reel counterpart, Porco is an adventurer and loves going on expotitions, as Pooh would say.

Violet

Violet is my second project off the Japanese amigurumi book. I made up the pattern for her bag to add on to her accessories. I named her after one of the Baudelaire siblings from Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events.

Violet is Bruno's girlfriend.

She can look very sweet in her dress...

Or very gangsta in her Rasta-inspired hat.

So don't mess with The Violet!

Milk Carton

This is my first project from Japanese amigurumi book Tanoshii kawaii amigurumi seibidou mutsuku waku waku hobi 9. Ok technically this isn't amigurumi cos it's not done in the round, but hey who cares?

I've always liked kawaii milk cartons. It all started with the milk carton from Blur's "Coffee + TV" video":

And this is my version:

It didn't quite turn out right, cos I think I sewed the edges on the wrong side. But it's okay, Wally and Chip love having a magical milk carton that can always squirt milk.

Chu Totoro!

This is my biggest project to date, and I'm really proud of it. I made the eyes bigger than in the original pattern. The Totoro also ate up most of my polyfill.

Chu Totoro was born on 17 Oct. His best friend, needless to say, is Chibi Totoro, or the white Totoro seen in my previous entry. The 2 Totoros like to bounce around a lot and hang out with Wally and Chip.
